Counselling is not about fixing what is wrong with you. It is about uncovering what is right with you but it is covered in doubt and fear. I offer a safe place where you can make sense of your thoughts. Together, we will raise what is submerged in your subconscious to a conscious level of self awareness. That is where the changes can be made to break habitual cycles, and where the magic happens. Counselling offers an understanding of what the real underlying issue is and offers tools and techniques to take home in order for the real changes to take place.

Grief and Loss

This could be the loss of dreams, the loss of self after having children, the loss of youth etc. Sometimes it is not even about what we have lost, it is about what we never had to begin with. For example, a mother who was never there for us, or a childhood that was taken away too soon. The bottom line is that grief needs to be validated and processed before a new world view can be established. You do not have to wait to have lost something in order to uncover the losses in your life. It is usually at a time of a tangible loss that we begin to process all our other losses.

Anxiety and Depression

We all have anxiety, it is there to move us and protect us. The problem arises when our anxiety works against us instead of for us. High anxiety is a learned behavior and can be unlearned. Anxiety stems from worrying about what happens in the future. There are tools and techniques to learn and practice on a daily basis to keep anxiety under control. Depression is anxieties cousin. It stems from ruminating about the past. Mindfulness and presence is very important to combat both conditions, it is one of the many tools that can be learned in order not only to survive but learn to thrive in life as well.

Positive Psychology

Many people wait for crises to hit before seeking therapeutic support. However, once we are in the midst of crises we use therapy to help us survive the day. If one has undergone therapy in a harmonious state, then when crises does hit (and it will) because that is life, then you will have everything needed to confront the change of life circumstance with a sense of strength and resilience. This is a rewarding therapy where goals are identified and met as well as giving a blueprint to deal with those unforeseen circumstances.

Stress Management

Stress is a silent killer that most people accept as a natural part of life. Unacknowledged stress can lead to cell mutations and can cause all kinds of diseases. The word disease stems from the “dis ease” of the mind.

Learn to recognize your stress symptoms before it manifests in maladjusted ways. Learn tools and techniques to keep your mind, body and spirit in alignment so that you can gain success and not stress.

Relationship Issues

It is not surprising that relationships are difficult when we think that most of us treat ourselves with no respect as well as harsh self talk. Life is a mirror. Learn the importance of treating yourself well and learn the tools and techniques of how to do so. Once the intrapersonal aspect of self love is learned, this will automatically filter out to all interpersonal relationships. Learn the language of unconditional love.

Life Transitions

People fear change. Most people will stay in a horrible situation because the certainty of the discomfort is easier than the unknown. The irony is that life is for ever changing. We are not the same people we were when we woke up in the morning, nor are we the same people we were yesterday or five years ago. Learn to lean into change with curiosity and confidence instead of resisting.

This is one of the scariest times in one’s life. Who are they and where do they fit in the world? This is a time of trying to find an identity and boundaries will be pushed and risky behaviour will be sought out. This is a profound time for them to come to therapy to make sense of a daunting world. They will learn the techniques of empowerment from the inside out. They will discover what deep seeded beliefs belong to them and which beliefs they have merely adopted because they were thrown on to them. They will build an authentic life, foundation up. The teenager will learn tools and techniques to be the rock when the hurricanes and tornadoes are going on outside, (the rock remains centered). This can be an exciting time of self discovery and great daily practices can be learned to continue on into adult life with confidence and grit.

Respect Workshop – (Preteen Girls)

This is a great opportunity for every 9-12 year old girl. It’s a wonderful chance for pre-teens to share their experiences and insights in an encouraging and supportive environment.

Your tween will benefit by preparing them for the social changes and development that faces early adolescence. They will develop their inner strengths and resources to help them flourish. They will cultivate the necessary tools and skills to navigate the challenges they will face.
